The golden globe trophy
The Golden Globe trophy, one of the most coveted awards in the entertainment industry and motion picture and television industries in particular, has received a makeover. The new awards were presented by the beginning of the year 2009 and the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards winners will be the first recipients of the newly designed statuette. The development of the new design and the production are said to have lasted for almost two years. The very first Golden Globe Award statuette was designed in the mid forties of the twentieth century, it was a design which persisted as the basis idea for all the amendments throughout the year; a golden globe surrounded by a film strip and affixed on a pedestal. The creative solution was presented by the acting president at that time, Marina Cisternas. On January 6th, 2009, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s President, Jorge Camara, presented to the world the new Golden Globe Awards. At the presentation, David W. Moritz, a CEO of the Society Awards, the company which was hired to do the design and then manufacture the new awards, was present as well. The new design shows some improvements, furthermore it seems able to withstand some tear and wear, and the new cases, where the statuettes can be transported in, were fancied up and made more durable. The Golden Globe is only plated with 24 karat gold, it is actually die cast zinc. The globe is more accurate, it is now clearly a sphere depicting the Earth. There is still a film strip encircling the round, the whole top looks very designed and posh. The aforementioned is located in a golden cup, which is affixed on a pedestal, keeping the traditional design as far as possible. The pedestal is actually a rectangular pillar, made out of some designer marble, the whole trophy looks worthy the fuzz that is being made around it. The case, which is meant to house the award when being transported, is a design wonder on its own account, it is a leather bound carrying case with velvet inlay padding; in addition, there is now a Golden Globes logo on the outside, imprinted in gold, just in case the owner forgets after a while what is supposed to go into it. At the base of the globe with the filmstrip encircling it like a snake, there is a base with HFPA etched, standing for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The new awards are definitely looking distinguished, the Cecil B. DeMille Award is somewhat different, the marble pillar is all black and the globe has a female angel holding a laurel wreath.
