Pick golden globe winner
Every December, when the Golden Globe nominations are announced, the rumor mill starts spinning and the bets on who will be the honored actor, actress, director, motion picture, television program and all the further coveted awards, twenty five in total, they start to produce a buzz that does not stop and culminates on the awards night. It is very seldom that any nominee is clearly viewed as the winner from the start and at the end also wins the award. The 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards will be remembered for the rare occasion, when two winners were clear favorites from the very start, Mickey Rourke and Heath Ledger. Picking a Golden Globe winner in advance would make your chances skyrocket in all the gambling houses that accepted bets on the right picks, predominantly housed in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, the odds for the two aforementioned nominees did not stand as favorable for betting, them being so obvious for winning. There is probably no publication in the world, which did not use the opportunity to tie the nominations of the Golden Globe Awards into some kind of contest. Whoever picked the right winners did win some prize from the publication. Similar contests ran on web pages, most prominently on the internet movie data base, which on the other hand did not give any prizes for the right combination. Even the Hollywood Foreign Press Association seemed to have a pick of their own, on their web site was one nominee declared as a winner, Anne Hathaway, weeks in advance. The faux pas was discovered and the entrance removed, but the mistake made the front pages of many publications. The conspiracy theories quieted down, when a different nominee actually won the award at presentation night, Kate Winslet. She actually went on to win two Golden Globes that night, a feat which was accomplished only by three other actresses, Sigourney Weaver, Joan Plowright and Helen Mirren. Nobody expected the motion picture “Slumdog Millionaire” to win so many awards that night, during the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards. Four major categories, including Best Picture and Best Director were swept. Nobody expected that the mega hit “Mamma Mia!” would not win a single award, being that the motion picture was extremely popular everywhere but the United States and being that this was the “foreign press” which was supposed to have voted. Similarly frowned upon was the pick for the Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, where “Vicky Christina Barcelona” by Woody Allen was preferred for no perceptible reason, as well as the 30 Rock cavalcade of awards.
